Antioquia, Colombia

Colombian Road Trip

My hermana (sister) and I took an exciting road trip through Antioquia, Colombia. Starting in Medellin, including the pueblos (towns) of Jerico, Pueblo Rico, Guatape, San Roque, and San Rafael. We attempted to make it to Jardin from Pueblo Rico. It was only 26 miles, but of single track road, with wash outs, mudslides and more. One flat tire and dozens of times bottoming out the rental car, we turned around, driving carefully on our mini donut, spare tire, and returned to Pueblo Rico. We lucked out and found a tire repair place. We found a hotel just off the square. Small, but clean and convenient. It was less than $30 for two rooms, each with private bath! The next day we headed back to Jerico, and ultimately to Guatape.

Colombia

Verdant, lush, natural beauty

It was interesting to see the looks on the faces of the locals. Watching two, loco gringos (us), attempting to drive a rental car down paths most often used by motorcycles, then horses, and old Jeep’s. We ultimately upgraded the rental to Small Renault Duster SUV. No four wheel drive, but much better ground clearance.

Pueblo

Jerico

Jerico is a beautiful Pueblo about 3 1/2 hours from Medellin. Don’t ask how far, as distance is almost irrelevant with the twisting turning mountain roads. A fast motorcycle probably makes it in half the time, but relax, smell the coffee (plants) and enjoy the fabulous views.
